Mirroring an Exposed World I recently saw a photography piece, "Dancer" by Irving Penn on exhibit at the Whitney Museum. The striking thing about the photos was not that they were of a nude Alexandra Beller, but that hers is not what one would typically think of as a naked dancer's body. She's not tall and thin with well-defined muscles and barely developed breasts. No. She's fat. Beller took a big risk posing nude for Penn's camera. She dared people to see her as a dancer, not just a fat woman. She dared people to see her as a sex symbol, not just a fat woman. She dared people to see her as an emotional woman- sensitive, powerful, frightened, bold, shy, loving, rebellious. She owns her body, and she challenges the audience to own their hesitation and move past it to see her exposed for the woman she really is. The exhibit made me immediately curious about Beller and her work. Formerly dancing with Bill T. Jones' company, Beller is now choreographing her own works. When I heard she would be presenting her latest work, It's Not You, It's Me at the Joyce Soho, I got out my umbrella and waited for over an hour in a standby line to see her perform. My friends had teased me for wanting to see Beller's show, saying "Wouldn't it be weird. I mean you saw her naked," and "Do you think she'll dance naked too?" But that was one of the reasons I wanted to see the show. I really identified with Beller in many ways. I was deeply impressed with her confidence to pose nude in the first place. Obesity, seen as repulsive, is despised at best, yet politely ignored. But Beller will not be ignored. I wondered what it was that gave her this confidence in her body. And I wondered what she would express with her body in her dance works. I was compelled by the risks she had taken with Penn, and compelled to see what else she would risk. When I saw It's Not You, It's Me, particularly the last piece, 50 Ways to Find a Mate, I was bombarded by feelings of pain, sadness, confusion that come with rejection, insecurities that are connected with bodies and body images. I got the feeling that Beller, though a beautiful and talented dancer is still an imperfect woman who struggles with her self-confidence, especially in romantic relationships.

Based on my knowledge of life in 1886, if the story were to take place in in Daly City in 2014, the story would greatly differ. Roads would be evenly and more efficiently paved. Modernized cars would replace horseback transportation. Likewise, farms would be replaced by studier homes, markets, and stores.Ellen Elizabeth Hawkins features as the main character of the story. A motherless twelve-year old, Ellen is adventurous and protective of others. Ellen is spirited and is willing to journey to far off lands. As in the story, because she enjoys an adventure, Ellen sets off into the distance to go rescue her Grandfather who has mysteriously disappeared. Just as her mother, Ellen is protective of animals, family, and all living beings. She trea ts her mare, Detroit with respect and is always concerned of Grandpa's safety. However, Ellen may be rebellious at times of suspense.In addition, Grandpa and Detroit, as stated before, are also two important characters of the story. Grandpa, humorous and welcoming, is the only support that is given to Ellen. He has also taught Ellen the hard life as a cowboy and the effort that it may take. Detroit, loyal and obedient, is Allen's fierce mare and use of transportation that travels without rest or fear of what is to come. To get the story started, author Kathleen Due uses a strong introduction that describes the conflict or situation, an intense drought and its immense heat. She begins by stating the shortage of water and supplies.As said, the central problem consists of a fearful drought that is causing immense heat and water shortage. The farm windmill is broken and the herd of bulls and cows has scattered in search of water. Allen's father is away on business and Grandpa is hurt. E llen is now left alone with her toughest challenge to save the ranch. The central problem is soon resolved with Allen's determination and perseverance. The drought finally comes to an end and it begins to rain. Ellen heals Grandpa's wounds and returns the Hereford bull after a dangerous aisle.Her father is home safe and Ellen has proved her worth as a cowboy. â€Å"American Diaries: Ellen Elizabeth Hawkins† is an exciting and action-packed story. This story is similar to another story I have read, entitled â€Å"Warriors: Fire and Ice† because both main characters face tough challenges and fierce conditions. However his four years in office demonstrated the presidency of a far more conservative than progressive leader. Donald Anderson writes that â€Å"Taft used his patronage powers to punish leaders like La Follete and Cummins who vindictively opposed the administration’s program.† This statement is in direct response to the issue of the Payne-Aldrich Tariff. The progressives, led by La Follete and Cummins, were upset that the proposed tariff, once in the hands of Speaker of the House Joe Cannon and the conservatives, was attacked by protectionists and changed in 847 ways. These results of these changes raised the tariff in ways thought to be protective for the United States. Theodore Roosevelt assured the progressives that Taft would surely veto the bill, which would have been a slap in the face to the progressives. However, Taft did not veto the bill, instead he pledged that he â€Å"would not take into consideration any of the progressive recommendations unless they (progressives) make it known that they are not engaged in attacking me or my administration.† In this account of events, Anderson shows two parts of the story that do not seem to corroborate with other accounts. Taft seems to feel that the progressives are directly threatening his authority even though he is supposed to share their views, after all he was a progressive and Roosevelt’s right hand man. Also, Anderson portrays Taft as being assertive in his decision to not tolerate the progressives or their plight. Whatever actually happened surrounding this event notwithstanding, other accounts to not coincide with those of Taft acting confidently and aggressively. Another historian, Nathan Miller takes a slightly different viewpoint on this same topic. While Miller sympathizes with Taft for having to follow in the footsteps of Teddy Roosevelt, he weaves a somewhat different story about president Taft. Miller describes Taft as a progressive but only up to a certain point. It is at that point then where Taft draws the line. Taft was often said to be so wracked by self doubt that he would walk the White House late at night unable to sleep. Miller paints William Taft as a totally dependent politician and a man incapable of being the president described by Anderson. Miller talks of Taft’s dependence first on Roosevelt and then on leaders such as Aldrich and Cannon. He goes on to say that â€Å"Taft lacked both the will and the stomach to get his own way in any battle such as this. Having been a yes man in Roosevelt’s cabinet, he inevitably became one for the party regulars.† It becomes this lack of support for progres sives, and ultimately therefore support for Roosevelt that effectively ends their political relationship. I agree with the latter depiction of president William Taft and his role as a progressive leader of American politics. It may be true that he was the victim of being Roosevelt’s successor. Yet still I feel that he demonstrated weak leadership qualities and when the fights broke out he abandoned camp and sought shelter within the party ranks. By doing this he effectively bit the hand that fed him in Theodore Roosevelt, a man that he was extremely loyal to and whom handed him the baton of dynamic presidential leadership, a baton in which he fumbled. He did not have Roosevelt’s integrity, his leadership, his grace, or his political prowess. While he later proved to be a honorable chief justice, one whom possessed a well organized, well honed legal mind, he simply lacked the backbone and integrity needed to be successful in elected and not appointed office. In these ways I have found William Taft to be both a poor progressive and a poor president. William Howard Taft came into the office of the president in 1909 with the world at his feet, and left office miserably four years later after only winning two states and eight electoral votes. It was the worst defeat ever suffered by an incumbent president. Theodore Roosevelt gave him the presidency and the popularity of the American people and he could do little with it but squander it almost entirely. While opinions may vary on his presidency, it is almost certainly clear that it was far from a growing success story. He did enjoy perhaps the most productive career of any ex-president after being appointed to the Supreme Court in 1921 by president Warren Harding. Yet his presidency will still be remember for doing little for the country and eventually being passed up by a country that voted in 1912 over three-quarters progressive. Taft’s presidency took office on a high and ended by giving the office back to the Democrats for the first time in sixteen years. To ensure that all information about Vodafone given by myself in this business proposal is fair and accurate to my best extent. The problems identified are relevant and suitable to work on duration of this course because the problem identified is ongoing in many organisations in New Zealand. The problems Im elaborating on are significantly important to be solved and thus the learning outcome will be of assistance to me when I join the workforce. Methods outlined: Research Questionnaires Face-to-face interview Exploring attitudes and behaviour of the staffs of Vodafone In using these research methods I was going to: Find facts primary data The process also includes interviews of the staffs and managers to find out the reasons of the problems and then work out the solutions for the problems identified. A content analysis was also used to find out the facts of the analysis and get solutions. 3.2PRIMARY PROCESS/SIZE OF SAMPLE POPULATION The initiation of this project started with the formulations of ideas as to what needs to be looked into to reach the aim of this survey. Once that was done, a questionnaire was made with regards to getting a specific ins and outs of what goes on the a Vodafone contact centre and how its inefficiency can leading to failed productivity. The sample size was quite small as this related to just one area within the greater Vodafone Business. On the 10th of April about 10 staffs were given questionnaires to fill and the choice was given to them either to put their name or leave them anonymous. I also did face to face interview of the 2IC of the Sales Team. From the responses provided in the questionnaire I was able to do an analysis of the problems. 3.3STATISTICAL TECHNIQUES USED FOR THE TASK The statistical tools used in this project included the employment of Fishbone diagram Gannt chart Henri Fayol management theory. 3.4INTERVIEW CONDUCTED AFTER SURVEY (DATES AND TIMES IN APPENDIX) An interview was carried out on the 2nd of April of some of the staffs and managers of the Vodafone Sales teams at the Vodafone Sales office in Penrose, Auckland City, New Zealand. 3.5LITERATURE REVIEW AND THEORY OF MANAGEMENT IN RELATION TO TOPIC I have reviewed some: Vodafone Catalogues Articles in newspapers Internet Research The research comes under the process of controlling. This method has helped me to identify the business problems, draw conclusions and to translate these solutions into a Strategic action plan. This method has also been able to provide me with assistance in consolidating the strengths, reducing the weaknesses, grab the opportunities, minimize the treats, facilitate the plan and alternative choices, help to innovate and ensure the well being and prosper ship of Vodafone in achieving the goals and missions. The fishbone diagrams has helped in to jot out the possible solutions to the problems Vodafone is facing and also the steps and resources needed to achieve these solutions. As the researcher I have identified the business problems and the possible solutions which will also help Vodafone sales team to improve their day to day operations through a given timeframe. CULTURAL DIFFERENCES Possible solutions: Managers need to develop their leadership skills and treat everyone equally putting aside the culture difference of the staffs. They require more training. 2. ILLEGITIMATE SICK CALLS. Possible Solutions: Get rid of the free to call sick line number and get sick calls to come to managers directly. Make a requirement for the actual employee to call in rather than having their family members call on their behalf. 3. AGENTS NOT SHOWING UP TO WORK WITHOUT NOTIFICATION. The procedure in place take care of such scenarios includes the following steps: Making contact with the agent who is not showing up. Sending an email request to make contact with Vodafone. Once a month has passed, a final call is made to the person absent to make contact with the company to discuss their future with the company. If contact is made, then there are further procedures such as a probation period for the agent. If contact is not made, then the agents contract is terminated. 4. LACK OF MOTIVATION. Possible Solutions: As providing motivational promotions can be costly, during the in between time, promotions should be invented which is not too expensive but enough good enough to boost team morale. Managers should make sure theyre setting a good example of efficiency and enthusiasm. Set goals and reward the staff when the goals are achieved. The reward can be as simple as a star on the calendar and a bigger reward at the end of the month if there are enough stars for each day. 4. STAFF IS COMMITTING FRAUD. Possible Solutions: Monitor calls and see if there is a pattern of a particular number calling multiple times to identify fraud. 5. LACK OF POWER TO STAFF MEMBERS. Possible Solutions: Vodafone identified that the number of these escalations were growing exponentially so just recently a new tool called VODAFONE HERO was launched to give agents over the phone additional powers to assist customer further and increase customer faith in the business. 6. Robert Frost’s Life as a Poet Robert Lee Frost was born in San Francisco, California on March 26 of 1974 and died in Boston, Massachusetts on January 29 of 1963. Though he did not truly start publishing poems until age thirty-nine, Frost obtained four Pulitzer prizes in his writing career and was deemed one of the greatest twentieth century poets. His pastoral writing and skilled use of meter and rhythm has captured the attention of reader’s and critics for decades (Academic American, 345). Frost was very fond of nature and the beauty of things around him and illustrated this in many of his poems. A reviewer stated that Frost was â€Å"always occupied with the complicated task of simply being sincere† (Faggen, I). This statement describes the writer well in the sense that Frost’s works are very full of emotion. His use of the English language and the fact that he often seemed to be holding a little something back in his writing has made him one of the most celebrated American writers ever. Frost’s early years in life were very adverse. Frost’s father, who named the boy after his idle Robert E. Lee, met his wife in Pennsylvania while they were both teaching at Bucknell Academy. William Prescott Frost Jr. and his wife Isabelle Moodie married and moved to San Francisco where Robert was born. William Frost was a Harvard graduate and was the city editor for the San Francisco Daily Evening Post. Frost’s family moved a good amount and his father, who had serious drinking problems, died of tuberculosis in 1885 and left his mother and younger sister with very little money after burial expenses. The Frost’s returned east to live with the paternal grandparents, but soon moved to Amherst, New Hampshire to stay with his great-aunt. Shortly after this the family returned to Lawrence, Mass. where Robert was placed in school as a third grader. Frost graduated here as co-valedictorian with Elinor White. Though he was moved often and had troubles with his fat her in his young life, Frost still maintained good grades and two years before he graduated Frost had â€Å"La Noche Triste† printed in the high school bulletin. This was his first printed poem. Two years later Frost graduated and read a speech titled â€Å"A Monument to After-Thought Unveiled† (Faggen, xi). He is best known for his semi- abstract, monumental ,bronze sculptures located around the world. Keyboard is furnishing fabric made of printed wool. The ergonomics of this textile are hard to observe without physically touching the fabric but it looks rough. I do not think you would want your sofa to be made of it. The aesthetics of Keyboard are quite dull. No bright colors are used so your eyes are not initially attracted to this textile. But the print is quite abstract so when you look close enough it intrigues you because you want to work out what the pictures on the design are. It is a musical themed textile as you can tell by the name. There are long lines of piano keys dividing the print into separate parts. In one row there are pictures which appear to be a saxophone, a tambourine ,and a person who is possibly a singer or conductor. The other row contains a pair of hands which is the clearest picture on the print, but the other pictures in that row are really hard to work out. Maybe one is a musical triangle, but he other pictures look like leaves. The color choice is very neutral- brown, beige, cream, and light pink- so this textile wouldnt be too harsh for a room even with the odd pictures on it. The function of this textile is to be used on furniture. This is quite a safe material to use for furniture as wool is not as flammable as some natural fibers sucks as cotton. It shouldnt be too expensive as wool is not an expensive material. The target market for this textile would be musical people. The contemporary textile I have chosen to write about, Red or Dead Elvis was designed y is a dress fabric made from screen printed cotton Jersey. From what I can tell the ergonomics seem to be quite good. It is a smooth material as its cotton and thats what would be good for a dress to make it comfortable. The aesthetics of Red or Dead Elvis are interesting and very sass. I can imagine a girl wearing a dress with this print during that time. The design contains pictures of a very familiar face to everyone around the world, Elvis Presley. This will make this design interesting to a lot of people because of the familiar face on it. Etches of bold classic tailoring fabrics such as Handouts, Clenched, Herringbone and Prince of Wales are used in this textile. The monochrome quality of the prints brings out the geometric characteristics of the fabrics, they all have similarities therefore contrast with the pictures of Elvis, making him stand out. The function of this textile is to be used fro a dress. Its a soft material though flammable. It may be an expensive material due to the intrigued designs and the fact Elvis is on it. The t arget market would be a female who likes crazy patterns and Elvis obviously. My favorite textile would have to be Red or Dead Elvis because I like the geometric style of the patterns and I also like Elvis. Or can we see hip-hop as something that resists a greater violence that has been meted out to African Americans and other minorities for several centuries? The first matter to clarify is the nature of what we call â€Å"Hip-hop.† It is a type of music, involving spoken and sung texts and strong steady rhythms.
