While the canonical literature of a civilization often reflects the most highly prized attributes of the society, more typical pieces of writing tend to offer a unique and realistic perspective on the civilization’s lifestyle. A collection of ancient Egyptian love poems written by average citizens was uncovered in Deir el-Medina and, like all other works of literature, within the writing, there are details indicative of their values. Because of their special nature, the poems offer an alternative viewpoint to the experiences of commoners. The love reflected in the poetry of ordinary ancient Egyptians was affected by their society’s customs, family, and religion. The social mores of ancient Egypt influenced love as indicated in the poetry. In I Devised to Drink in Her Beauty, a common-man is travelling to his lover but encounters Mehy, a well-known and fearsome warrior. Mehy is representative of ancient Egyptian traditions and obligations and so, upon his encounter, the lover attempts to avoid the warrior. The power and influence that Mehy retains, as illustrated by him being â€Å"in his chariot,† causes the boy to want to hide his wanton desires. This reflects the social stigma attached to being in love in ancient Egyptian society. While in self-conflict, he considers crossing the Nile river. For instance, a sixth grade male, whom happens to be a distant cousin, but is aware that we are indeed related, sought me out for advice as to how to better his relationship with his mother (A.4.a. Dual Relationships). Because I knew the family offhand, I was aware of the tumultuous relationship that the child and his mother shared. However, as a professional, I could not allow my previous knowledge of his relationship with his mother cloud my judgement on how to advise the young man. I set boundaries within the first few moments of the session that dealt with the explanation of confidentiality and that his feelings and opinions were in a judgement free safe zone (A.2.a. Confidentiality). His issue was simple. He felt that his mother was not allowing him to become independent or in his words, â€Å"grow up.† To his defense, he was correct in his observation. I reasoned with him to talk with his mother in a respectful manner to address his issues with her not allowing him to gain more independence. I also advised the young man to take the initiative in showing his mother how responsible he could be in everyday occurrences. For example, instead of allowing his mother to pick out his clothes and iron them, he could pick out hisShow MoreRelatedSchool Counseling Collaborative Model5757 Words   |  24 PagesAssociation (ACA). AMERICAN lV The Man Comes Around by Johnny Cash free essay sample

AMERICAN lV: The Man Comes Around The Man Comes Around is poised as the next chapter in Cashs darkling fairy tale, the fourth in an ongoing series of most covers in albums on which he gives material by some of today’s most talented or bestselling artists his own aged slant. Now at this time Johnny Cash made a song â€Å"Hurt†was a clever novelty made impressive overwhelming emotion. Cashs renditions of songs like Nick Cave’s The Mercy Seat and Leonard Cohen’s Bird on a Wire werent so surprising, but far more powerful, as the spirit of those songs was so close to his own. The simple truth, of course, is that Cash’s talent is such that he can elevate nearly any song to which he turns his ear. But on this, his fourth go-round on the same theme, it hardly seems necessary anymore. The songs of this record are taken from the most disparate ends of the musical spectrum, to no apparent end but show that he can do it.
